GINGER JARS

I enjoy creating small works in particular Ginger Jars, they are beautiful, elegant, and undeniably charming. The earliest ginger jars known date from the Ming period (1368-1644), and they were made for exporting salt, spices, oils to the West.

The Europeans were impressed with these little cargo containers as the jars were more refined than any porcelain being produced in Europe at the time. Through the 18th and 19th centuries ginger jars became a highly desirable accessory for the home.  Well known for the classic blue and white palette they are also available in a wide variety of decorative designs featuring cherry blossoms, figures, landscapes, and animals.

All ginger jars can be painted and embellished with gold leaf on request.
